9 LA Spots and Events to Check Out this Month

It's August, the month to pack in all the fun your summer can fit, including good vibes, eats and drinks.  Max out on your LA fun with this list of spots to hit up for food, happy hour, and events - a couple of my favorites plus a few new spots I'll be hitting up.

Barton G - Marie Antoinette - 9 LA Spots and Events to Check Out this Month - Sabine Forever - sabineforever.com

Barton G
Eating at Barton G is an experience. Their quirky presentation makes it as much about entertainment as it is about dining. I had the lobster mac and cheese and the pear salad. For desert, I had Marie Antoinette's Head, a giant cotton candy head with your choice of tiramisu or a bananas foster shake. All so delicious!

Wabi Sabi - 9 LA Spots and Events to Check Out this Month - Sabine Forever - sabineforever.com

Wabi Sabi
This Venice spot is known for its sushi and Japanese fusion fare. I can't go here without ordering the tempura vegetables but you will enjoy any of the rolls, as well. The interior is swanky but the vibe is totally chill. It's Venice baby!

Happy Hour

Sonoma Wine Garden - 9 LA Spots and Events to Check Out this Month - Sabine Forever - sabineforever.com

Sonoma Wine Garden
This hidden gem is tucked away on the third floor of Santa Monica Place mall, just steps away from the ocean. Its open-air balcony is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset. It totally feels like you've been transported to wine country.  The happy hour food menu has lots of option including vegan-friendly choices. Did I mention they have a great sangria menu at $7 a glass? The white sangria is my favorite.

Yardbird - Marie Antoinette - 9 LA Spots and Events to Check Out this Month - Sabine Forever - sabineforever.com

Yardbird serves up southern fare in an upscale environment. Go during "social hour" to get the most bang for your buck with $10 signature cocktails and snack-sized portions of their signature fried chicken and beef brisket. I can't go there without ordering the southern peach tea drink and a brisket biscuit. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Beverly Center and is one of a few new additions in the recent renovations.

The Highlight Room
This recently-opened rooftop pool bar sits atop the Dream Hotel. The pool is open in the evening for a swanky night party as well as on weekends for day parties. Though it’s upscale, the vibe is a little more laid-back than some of Hollywood's more well-known pools. Dress to impress in the evening!

Everyday People LA
This party originated in New York comes out to LA approximately every 8 - 12 weeks so you'd better catch it while it’s here. The vibe just can't be replicated anywhere else in LA. They play an eclectic mix of music ranging from afro-beats and world to highly curated hip hop. This is the place to be if you want to dance in have fun in a chill environment without all of the typical LA challenges.

Saved by the Max Pop Up
For everyone who grew up with Saved by the Bell, your mind is about to be blown. God bless the human who thought up the idea to create a real life replica of the Max diner where the crew would eat after school.  Get dressed up in your best throwback 90s fit and eat at the max for all of the nostalgic realness you can handle. Tickets are $40 and include reservations for dinner as well as brunch on the weekends. The Pop Up is only around until March 2019 and tickets are going fast so get them while they last!

KCRW Summer Nights
This event series takes place in varying locations around LA, often time outside like a block party.  As soon as you pull up you feel the welcoming, all-inclusive vibes just envelop you. They bring out DJs who really know how to get the crowd up on their feet. The first one I've been to was at the African - America Museum in the courtyard out front and featured a beer garden, food trucks and games.  There are a handful of Summer Nights events this August which are all free and open to the public.
